UCAT Preparation

UCAT Exam Preparation

Think Fast. Decide Smart. Perform With Confidence.

Turn Your Potential Into UCAT Readiness.

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is used by UK and partner universities as part of the selection process for relevant medical and dental degree programmes. It is a computer-based admissions test that assesses mental abilities such as critical evaluation, decision-making, numerical reasoning and judgement.

For students aiming for a competitive Medicine or Dentistry pathway, strong academic results are only one part of the journey.

Can your child understand information quickly, make effective decisions, manage time and stay accurate when the pressure is on?

Why Does UCAT Preparation Matter?

Because Being Smart Isn't Enough. Being Strategic Matters.

A student may be academically strong and still find UCAT challenging. Why?

Because the UCAT isn't simply asking:

Every second matters. Every decision matters. And knowing when to move on can be just as important as knowing how to solve a question.

It isn't asking

Do you know the answer?

It is asking

Can you find the right answer quickly, accurately and consistently?

At Dominis, we help students develop:

Rapid Information Processing

Learn to identify relevant information without getting lost in unnecessary detail.

Decision-Making Skills

Evaluate evidence, recognise patterns and make logical choices with confidence.

Numerical Fluency

Work efficiently with data, graphs, tables and numerical information.

Critical Reading

Extract meaning from written passages and distinguish relevant information from distractions.

Professional Judgement

Develop an understanding of appropriate responses to realistic scenarios.

Time Management

Build a personalised approach to pacing, prioritisation and question selection.

The objective isn't simply to practise hundreds of questions. It's to make every practice question teach you something.

Understand the UCAT

Four Subtests. Four Different Ways of Thinking.

The current UCAT consists of four separately timed multiple-choice subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement. The standard test takes just under two hours, including timed instruction sections.

Verbal Reasoning

Read. Analyse. Decide.

Students critically evaluate information presented in written form.

Preparation focuses on:

  • Reading efficiently
  • Identifying key information
  • Drawing conclusions
  • Evaluating statements
  • Managing long passages
  • Working accurately under time pressure

The challenge: Read less. Understand more. Decide faster.

Decision Making

Think Logically. Make the Call.

Students use complex information to reach conclusions, evaluate arguments and solve problems.

A basic on-screen calculator is available in this subtest.

Students may need to:

  • Interpret information
  • Evaluate arguments
  • Identify logical relationships
  • Analyse statistical information
  • Make decisions from available evidence

The challenge: Don't overthink. Think precisely.

Quantitative Reasoning

Numbers Are Only Part of the Challenge.

Students use numerical information to solve problems, often working with charts, graphs and data.

A basic on-screen calculator is available in Quantitative Reasoning.

Preparation can include:

  • Percentages
  • Ratios
  • Proportions
  • Averages
  • Data interpretation
  • Numerical comparisons
  • Estimation
  • Time-efficient calculations

The challenge: Calculate efficiently. Move confidently.

Situational Judgement

Understand the Situation. Choose the Appropriate Response.

This subtest assesses how students respond to realistic scenarios and identify important factors and appropriate behaviour. It does not require medical knowledge.

Students develop the ability to consider:

  • Professional behaviour
  • Integrity
  • Teamwork
  • Resilience
  • Adaptability
  • Perspective-taking
  • Appropriate responses to challenging situations

The challenge: Don't simply choose what feels right. Understand what is most appropriate.

Know the Numbers. Master the Strategy.

The three cognitive subtests are scored from 300–900, giving a combined cognitive score of 900–2700. Situational Judgement is reported separately as Bands 1–4, with Band 1 being the highest. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

What Happens Inside a Dominis UCAT Programme?

A Preparation Journey Built Around the Student — Not Just the Test.

Some students read quickly but struggle with timing. Others are excellent with numbers but hesitate on Decision Making. Some students know exactly what to do but lose marks through rushing.

Dominis identifies the problem before trying to solve it.

  1. 01

    Diagnostic Assessment

Understand your child's current level across the UCAT subtests.

  2. 02

    Strength & Gap Analysis

Identify where they are naturally strong and where marks are being lost.

  3. 03

    Strategy Development

Introduce practical approaches for different question types and scenarios.

  4. 04

    Skill Building

Strengthen reading, reasoning, numerical and judgement skills through targeted practice.

  5. 05

    Timed Practice

Gradually introduce greater time pressure as confidence develops.

  6. 06

    Mock Assessments

Bring the individual skills together in realistic UCAT-style practice.

  7. 07

    Performance Analysis

Look beyond the score to identify patterns in mistakes, timing and decision-making.

  8. 08

    Targeted Improvement

Refine the preparation plan based on actual performance.

Learn. Practise. Time. Analyse. Improve.

That's the Dominis approach to UCAT preparation.

More Than Question Practice

A Complete UCAT Preparation Experience.

Help Your Child Prepare With Strategy, Structure & Confidence.

At Dominis, we don't want students simply clicking through question after question. We want them to understand:

Why did I get this wrong?

Could I have solved it faster?

Did I spend too long on this question?

What should I do differently next time?
