TMUA Preparation

TMUA Exam Preparation

Think Beyond the Formula. Prepare for the Thinking Test.

Turn Mathematical Ability Into Admissions-Test Confidence.

The Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) is designed to assess how effectively students think mathematically, reason through unfamiliar problems and apply their knowledge.

For students targeting competitive university courses such as Mathematics, Computer Science and Economics, preparation should go beyond simply revising school mathematics.

At Dominis, we help students develop the confidence, precision and problem-solving mindset needed to approach challenging TMUA questions strategically.

Why Does TMUA Preparation Matter?

Because Knowing Mathematics Is Only the Beginning.

A student can be excellent at A-Level Mathematics and still need to adjust their approach for an admissions test like TMUA.

The challenge is often not:

That is the difference Dominis focuses on.

Not

Do I know this topic?

But

Can I recognise what the question is testing, choose the right approach and solve it accurately under pressure?

We help students develop:

Mathematical agility

Recognise patterns, relationships and efficient routes through unfamiliar problems.

Logical reasoning

Evaluate statements carefully and make conclusions from mathematical information.

Problem-solving discipline

Avoid unnecessary working and focus on the information that actually matters.

Time awareness

Make better decisions about when to persist, move on or return to a difficult question.

Exam confidence

Replace uncertainty with repeated exposure to challenging question styles.

The aim isn't simply to complete more questions. It's to become better at thinking through them.

Understand the TMUA

Two Papers. One Goal: Strong Mathematical Thinking.

The current TMUA is a 2-hour-30-minute assessment made up of two parts. No calculators or dictionaries are permitted during the assessment.

Paper 1

Applications of Mathematical Knowledge

Students apply familiar mathematical concepts to problems that may require flexible thinking rather than straightforward recall.

Areas may include:

  • Algebra
  • Equations and inequalities
  • Functions
  • Sequences
  • Coordinate geometry
  • Trigonometry
  • Mathematical modelling
  • Problem-solving

Paper 2

Mathematical Reasoning

This section places greater emphasis on logical mathematical thinking and reasoning.

Students may need to:

  • Interpret mathematical statements
  • Analyse relationships
  • Evaluate arguments
  • Use deduction
  • Identify implications
  • Construct logical approaches

The key difference? The TMUA tests how students use mathematics — not simply whether they have studied it.

What Happens Inside a Dominis TMUA Programme?

A Preparation Plan Built Around Your Child.

No two students begin their TMUA journey at exactly the same point. Some have excellent mathematical foundations but struggle with unfamiliar problems. Others understand the concepts but lose marks through timing. Some simply need more exposure to the style and pressure of admissions testing.

That's why our preparation follows a clear progression:

  1. 01

    Diagnostic Check

We begin by understanding your child's current mathematical ability, problem-solving approach and areas requiring attention.

  2. 02

    Concept Reinforcement

We strengthen any underlying mathematical knowledge that could affect performance.

  3. 03

    Problem-Solving Development

Students tackle increasingly challenging problems and learn how to recognise effective solution pathways.

  4. 04

    TMUA-Style Practice

Students become familiar with the thinking patterns, question styles and demands of the assessment.

  5. 05

    Timed Challenges

Speed and accuracy are developed through structured timed practice.

  6. 06

    Mock & Review

Students complete realistic assessments followed by detailed analysis.

  7. 07

    Targeted Improvement

Weak areas become clear, allowing preparation to become more focused and purposeful.

Learn. Apply. Challenge. Review. Improve.

That's the Dominis approach.

More Than Tuition

A Complete Preparation Experience.

Everything Your Child Needs to Prepare, Progress and Perform With Confidence.

At Dominis, TMUA preparation isn't limited to a weekly lesson. We create an environment where students can learn, practise, receive feedback and continually improve.

Your child can benefit from:

Expert Mathematical Guidance

Learn how experienced tutors approach difficult problems.

Interactive Online Learning

Ask questions, challenge ideas and work through solutions in real time.

Small-Group or 1-to-1 Support

Choose a learning format suited to your child's needs.

Topic & Problem-Solving Practice

Build confidence through carefully structured questions.

Timed Challenges

Practise making accurate decisions when time matters.

Mock Assessments

Experience realistic examination pressure before test day.

Performance Feedback

Identify patterns in mistakes instead of simply counting marks.
